On behalf of the Historic Kansas City Board of Directors and staff, we greatly appreciate the strategic support of the W. T. Kemper Foundation and the empowering force of a matching $25,000 gift, which helped incentivize and has advanced our year-end fundraising to higher levels. So timely in advancing our annual appeal, it recognizes the continuing challenges of the pandemic and difficulties physically gathering supporters, and loss of funding opportunity normally relied on in that vein.
Historic Kansas City’s work to keep this city historic and vibrant may become even more challenging, but we remain committed to championing historic structures, neighborhoods, and parks alongside necessary and thoughtful development.
The abiding support of the W. T. Kemper Foundation is valued beyond measure.
HKC helps you reimagine, rescue, and revive meaningful places. We save places because they stir us. They’re inspiring examples of Kansas City art and spirit, ingenuity, and craft. They heighten our sense of place and connect us through the generations. They help us remember what’s important in our lives. We save places people will use and enjoy today, adapting vintage places rather than throwing them away, to keep connections to the past and to spare the landfills. We believe that, like hard work and hospitality, revitalization is a real Kansas City value. We save places because restored landmarks are economic drivers. They improve property values, promote tourism, and inject vitality into neighborhoods and business districts. They create and support local jobs. Their distinctiveness attracts the workforce of the future. Perhaps most importantly, we save places because they’re the sites that draw us in and hold us fast. They’re the places among which we live, work, explore, and pass on what we’ve learned. Saving places. It’s our passion and our purpose. Through preserving and understanding our past we explore and advance our unity and better grasp our shared heritage.
We recognize that you are most likely lending a hand to many critical efforts. If your circumstances allow, we need your help to continue protecting the places and stories that matter to all of us. Your support of HKC will help secure our greatest assets: our dedicated staff. While we’ve trimmed our expenses as much as possible, we still need critical support to remain viable and whole. No in person events were held during 2020 or 2021 due to COVID resulting in a significant loss in revenue. Not having face to face events and meetings slowed down our ability to continue to build our membership and solicit financial support. But HKC has not been idle. We actively secured two forgivable loans from the Paycheck Protection Program, increased our corporate sponsorship support, and raised a record total in the annual appeal including a record of new donations. Yet, our financial future remains uncertain. This is really difficult.
Can you help now with a donation or membership? All funds raised support our efforts to stay at the forefront of the discussion about Kansas City’s growth and preservation.
